What are the various types of polyester yarn and what are their uses?

There are three types of Polyesters yarns that differ in their production method and in their characteristics and uses. The three types of polyester yarns are POY (Partially Oriented Yarn), DTY (Drawn Textured Yarn), and FDY (polyester Fully Drawn Yarn).

POY:

It’s the primary kind of polyester yarn; it's also referred to as Polyester Pre-Oriented Yarn. It's the primary type of yarn made directly from PTA & MEG or by spinning Polyester PET Chips and is used to create textured yarn, also referred to as Polyester Drawn Textured Yarn (DTY).

DTY:

It’s produced when Polyester POY is simultaneously twisted and drawn. Polyester DTY yarn is principally used as a component in weaving and knitting materials for creating garments, home decorations, seat covers and bags. FDY or fully drawn yarn is additionally referred to as Polyester Filament Yarn (PFY) or Spin Draw Yarn (SDY).

FDY:

It's mainly used as weft or weaves with other types of filament yarns to make a variety of fabrics, and it’s utilized in making home furnishing fabrics, fashion fabrics, denim, bath towels etc.
